Can Cracked Rims Be Repaired?

Alloy wheels have been very popular in the last two decades. They are more attractive than steel wheels and are extremely popular among car enthusiasts. Manufacturers are even more creative in designing wheels, making them larger and wider. This trend has allowed car manufacturers to retrofit new cars and SUVs with more appealing wheels.

They aren’t as strong as steel wheels, which is the main downside. Alloy wheels can be damaged by stress, even though they are designed to support the car’s weight. This can happen when you hit a curb at high speed, or drive through a large pothole. Because aluminum alloy is more flexible than steel, this is very common. A wheel repair shop might be able to repair cracked wheels depending on how severe the damage is.

A wheel repair specialist can fix a crack if it isn’t too severe. Our customers believe that a cracked alloy wheel can be easily hammered back into its place. However, it isn’t as simple as it looks. Our wheel specialists are skilled in repairing damaged wheels. All damage, including unsightly cracks and other weak spots, can be repaired by our team of wheel experts. This involves the use of special alloy welding equipment. The entire wheel can be repaired if the crack has caused damage to the wheel or is visible. The wheel will look and perform like a new one.

All of our wheels are tested for damage and then mounted on a special device. After washing all wheels, we remove any brake dust or dirt grime from the surface. The wheel is then re-positioned using heat, pressure, and vibrations. This prevents the wheel from being damaged further, including cracking. Welding the areas that require welding is then done. The newly welded area will then be sanded, polished, and polished.

If the damage is too severe or the crack too large, we will tell you that we can’t repair it. A used alloy wheel can still be purchased for a fraction of the cost of a new one. We have OEM wheels in a variety of grades.
